Beat The Clock-Low-fat Pantry:

These ingredients have little or no fat and should be in everyone’s pantry.

  1. Vinegars—from balsamic to mango
  2. Lemons and limes—peels and juice
  3. Tomatoes—fresh, canned, or dried
  4. Capers—small nonpareil, if possible
  5. Beans—from black to pinto
  6. Onion Family—garlic, onions, scallions, and shallots
  7. Fresh Herbs—especially basil, flat-leaf parsley, thyme, tarragon, rosemary, chives, dill, and cilantro
  8. Spices—especially black pepper, sea salt, cumin, ginger, curry powder, nutmeg, hot pepper (like cayenne or red pepper flakes), saffron, and paprika
  9. Mustards—from Dijon to honey mustard
  10. Roasted Red Bell Peppers—or pimientos
  11. Wine and Spirits- especially dry vermouth, sherry, and brandy
  12. Fat-free stocks and broths
